On our barge river cruise we were told there were 3 medieval castles (ruins) to be seen. First were ruins of Old Castle (Starhrad) 1:00 . These are really just ruins. Nothing else can be seen there. Second castle 1:40 is Strecno Castle (in other languages: Strechun, Strechyn, Streczen, Streczan )…a reconstructed ruin of a medieval castle. The castle stands on a 103-metre-high (338 ft) calcite cliff and is 12 km from nearest city Zilina. The first recorded mention of the stone castle is from 1316. Today the castle belongs to the national cultural heritage of the Slovak republic. And how about third castle? Watch the whole video to find out. Just one hint. The third castle is very small. Much smaller than other two. And unlike its bigger neighbours, it is not located on hill or cliff, but almost on the river level 😉
